Eyes on Haiti
As the Earth quaked, lives were shaken.
Eyes shed tears of pain and sorrow.
Ears heard the clamor of destruction.
Noses smelled the stench of death.
Mouths tasted the residue of smoke.
Hands touched bodies for signs of life.
The senses of men, women and children
afflicted as their minds struggled
with despair, panic and mayhem.
The wounded of Haiti
crawl along the shattered course of
the Earth that shook their world apart.
Vigilant feet have traveled to Haiti to walk deadly paths.
Dutiful arms are reaching out to lift spirits and bodies.
Compassionate hearts are sending hope and love.
Generous pockets are organizing to sponsor recovery.
Mournful spirits are sending prayers on the wings of angels.
Creative minds are writing poems to express empathy.
Together we stand
to lend a hand for humanity.
We all feel the heartache of Haiti
who share our existence on Earth,
where any life
can have their world shaken
at any time.
