Saying Goodbye to My Beloved Aunt Edna
Last week there was sunshine and warmth, which was
hopeful for the two-week long Spring season in Michigan.
Yesterday I awoke to heavy snow clinging to the
large branches of the tree outside of my window.
A closer look revealed the clear, snow-free streets in
April were suddenly hidden by a blanket of snow.
My eyes saw the beauty of a snowy day, but
my mind knew the cold and sudden change from
sunny to frosty could be a sign of things to come.
It was the symbol of an unexpected change in my heart.
My cheerful warm smile would become a wilted and cool
frown when I learned about the death of my loving aunt.
It was distressful news, but somehow the blanket of
snow cushioned the sorrow with its chilling effect.
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 will not be the cold Spring night
when I recall my aunt passed away much too soon.
I will remember the warmth of her comfort and affection;
the conversations we shared; the kindheartedness she
expressed in the things she did and said; the fun and
laughter we enjoyed; and all of the memories that will
bring a smile to my face as I treasure the sunny
days I experienced in life because of my Aunt Edna.
Mother-in-Heart
Mothers are creators of life
working on behalf of the Lord
to populate the Earth.
They give birth, feed hungry mouths, dry teary eyes,
wipe runny noses, calm scary thoughts, mend broken hearts,
relax tense minds, alleviate lonely feelings, and heal ill health,
They love unconditionally, worry constantly,
pray faithfully, listen attentively,
sacrifice unselfishly, and care deeply.
They nurture their children, protect their families,
serve their husbands, take care of their parents,
and respect the Lord.
The wondrous functions of a mother.
Thank God for this mother, wife, daughter, grandmother,
sister, great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend
who filled lives with love, joy, and memories.
My heart aches and I feel deep appreciation
for my mother-in-law,
who was my mother-in-heart.
